Woolmer Forest, Near Bordon - Wednesday 08 September 2004

I hope you all enjoyed the day, weather was great and the wind help cool people down, congrats to the winners. Despite the extensive forestry work I think the courses proved challenging. MTBO is different in that it is often difficult to read whilst moving, so map memory has to be used or you are forever stopping.

Having spoken to a number of runners many, including the leaders, missed some of the obvious routes and that's what it is about, selecting the best route. Woolmer ranges are closed for all of September, so if we can get permission I may run another event there on Wed 29 Sep from the other end, hopefully by then much of the forestry work will have finished. Watch this space.

A number of riders/runners failed to register at some controls, with touch-free controls it is vital that you check the card at every control to confirm you have punched and don't just hope you have, that's why we use version 3 cards. Remember with touch-free there is no back-up.
