Organiser’s Comments

Many thanks to all who turned up for the short course championships, the feedback from the majority of competitors was that it was a highly enjoyable (and competitive) set of courses. The credit for this goes to Allan Farrington, Hugh Drummond and Richard Barrett as Planner for the heats, Planner for the finals and Controller respectively.

Organisationally we were on plan F, with plans A through to E all having fallen by the wayside for various reasons. Ultimately having the heats and the finals in separate locations seemed to be a positive for the competitors (especially the mass move between the 2), but organisationally posed us with a heap of challenges that we only just managed to pull off in the end.

There was one point raised querying the methodology of how Army ladies were allocated to the restricted final from the restricted heats; the issue will be taken up at the next AOA meeting requesting direction for future events.

There was an error on the day regarding the declaration of the Army Champion for which I unreservedly apologise. As a member of the TA, John Owens should have been shown as a Maj and not a Mr and is the 2009 Army Short Course Champion.

Controller's Comments

Many thanks to the Organiser, WO1 Tom Murphy and Planners Maj (Retd) Alan Farrington and Maj (Retd) Hugh Drummond for making my job as controller relatively easy.

Our original plan had been to use the west end of Pirbright Camp (Elizabeth Barracks) with part of Windmill Hill for the Heats and the Army Trg Centre end with some of the woodland and assault cse area for the final. Technical map issues and range danger constraints ruled this out and so the option to use Congo Stream for the heats was utilised. Two contrasting areas made for an interesting challenge for competitors however the extra logistical and administrative burden put considerable pressure on the organising team. All of whom did a sterling job to make the event run as smoothly as it did.

Perhaps next year the organising Corps will use the same format?
