PROPOSED NEW SCORING SYSTEM AT ARMY CHAMPIONSHIPS

At the recent AOA Committee meeting (16 June 05) a proposal was tabled to revise the scoring system at the Army Championships. The format of the event would remain exactly the same with teams of 4 and 3 running a Harris Relay on Day 1 and a normal relay Day 2. Times from Day 1 would be used to calculate starting time in the chasing start for Day 2, with the fastest teams in each category going off first. Any missed control on Day 1 incures a 15 min penalty.

The main change would with be the 'A' course becoming the Open TeamChampionship for teams of 4 from any unit whatever their size (that means a major, minor, TA, U25, Womens or UOTC team could become the Army Open Team Champions). The 'B' course would be for teams of 3 with classes for Open, Minor, TA/UOTC, U25, Womens & Vets. Teams can only run in one category to be nominated beforehand.

There would be a chasing start for all teams on Day 2 with points awarded to teams based on their placings (That's position across the line, subject to not being disqualified, with points awarded as follows: A Cse 10, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 and B Cse within each separate category 6, 4, 3, 2, 1. Team in each category with the highest score wins.

There would be prizes for the winning teams in each category, both on Day 1 and also on Day 2 for the fastest actual running times in each category. For the combined competition the highest score in each category would win (A Cse Open, B Cse Open, Minor, TA/UOTC, U25, Womens & Vets, with there being an overall Army Champion team based on the combined scores of a unit's best 'A' course placing and best 'B' Cse category placing (obviously maximum score is 16 and in the event of a tie the higher score on the 'A' Cse will win).

COMMENTS ON THIS FORMAT ARE NOW REQUESTED SO IT CAN BE DISCUSSED AT THE NEXT AOA MEETING in October 2005 WITH A VIEW TO IMPLEMENTATION IN 2006.
